We want every child to be happy, healthy and safe. Our intention is that when children leave they will have the knowledge, understanding and emotions to be able to play an active, positive and successful role in today’s diverse society. We want to prepare our pupils to be a global citizen now and in their future roles within a global community.

We believe that high quality PSHE education will empower our children and give them the best opportunities in life. We want our children to have high aspirations, a belief in themselves and realise that anything is possible if they put their mind to it. In an ever–changing world, it is important that they are aware, to an appropriate level, of different factors which will affect their world and that they learn how to deal with these so that they have high self-esteem and good mental health and well-being..

Our PSHE Curriculum meets the National Curriculum expectations in PSHE and is informed by the Life to the Full Plus (a fully-resourced RHE / RSE programme, for Catholic primary Schools, integrated with additional resources to fully cover all additional PSHE / Health and Well-Being criteria)

The scheme of work enables a spiral curriculum approach to learning in which pupils will revisit the same topics at an age-appropriate stage through their school life.The entire teaching is underpinned with a Christian faith understanding that our deepest identity is as a child of God – created, chosen and loved by God. The programme is fully inclusive of all pupils and their families.

Our PSHE planning is tailored to meet the needs for our pupils; pupil wellbeing questionnaires help the PSHE Lead to prioritise learning and add in extra teaching where needed.

• Wider Curriculum

• *  We place great importance on developing children’s resilience, confidence and independence, so our curriculum provision aims to enable pupils to: embrace challenge; foster a love of learning; and increase their level of happiness. We do this through the positive language we use in class, praising children for their efforts, established learning behaviours and using language to encourage children to change their way of thinking. This supports both our school values and PSHE aims and values.
• *  PSHE, including spiritual, moral, social and cultural development and British Values are an integral part of the whole school curriculum, and is therefore often taught within other subject areas.
• *  Assemblies are planned to link to PSHE, Catholic and British Values and spiritual, moral, social and cultural development, and we also cover incidental or topical subject matters that arise that would benefit the whole school.
• *  Visitors, such as emergency services and the school nurse, complement our PSHE curriculum to offer additional learning opportunities.
• *  We encourage our pupils to develop their sense of self-worth by playing a positive role in contributing to school life and the wider community. We challenge all of our pupils to look for opportunities to show the school values of compassion, respect, responsibility, equality, faith, and achievement.

• EYFS

• In the Foundation Stage, PSHE and citizenship are taught both within teacher-led work and also embedded throughout the curriculum. The objectives taught are informed by the Personal, Social and Emotional Development statements from ‘Development Matters: non-statutory guidance for the EYFS’ and the PSED Early Learning Goals. Personal, social and emotional development helps children to develop a positive sense of themselves and to have confidence in their own abilities.

The impact of our PSHE Curriculum will visibly demonstrate our mission statement of Love of God, Love of One Another, Love of Our World and Love of Learning, which will be developed and reflected in our pupils’ behaviours and attitudes, and actions.

Our Catholic Social Teaching values will be explicitly evidenced across the whole school, with children showing a secure understanding of each of these values. Children will be happy, healthy and safe learners within and beyond PSHE
